Maine Pointe Sponsored Water Well in Africa Brings Safe Water to Over 4,500 People

Bringing a safe, clean water supply to Bukoma village Uganda

Well in Bukoma village Uganda Maine pointe (Boston, Mass. – Oct 17, 2016) As part of our ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility  (CSR) strategy, Maine Pointe is committed to giving tangible help to charitable groups working with individuals and communities in the U.S.A. and overseas. Most recently, we pledged our support to Divine Water, a non-profit organization founded by our E.V.P. Operations, Jim Mynaugh, to provide communities in Africa with access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water.

We are delighted to announce that the water well Maine Pointe sponsored has been installed and is now in constant use providing safe, clean and reliable water to the 4,500-strong population of Bukoma village in Uganda.

The village’s existing well was too shallow and ran dry by early morning. Once that happened, the women and children had to spend hours each day fetching water from a shallow pond half a mile away. The new Maine Pointe well is near the center of the village and supplies a continuous flow of clean water. Access to a reliable water supply will quickly reduce, and even eliminate water-borne diseases such as dysentery and cholera. Children will no longer have to miss school to care for sick parents or to fetch water and average life expectancy in the village will increase by around 10 years.

Fresh water transforms lives and we are very proud that we have been able to play a small part in providing a brighter future for the villagers of Bukoma.
