SGS Maine Pointe Names Stephen Ottley as Leader, Energy and Chemicals Practice

Boston, Mass., Aug 11, 2022 -- Global supply chain and operations implementation consulting firm, SGS Maine Pointe, a member of the SGS Group, today announced Stephen Ottley has been appointed Senior Managing Director, Head of Chemicals and Energy. Ottley’s decades of global consulting experience have long been essential in leading SGS Maine Pointe’s clients towards measurable improvements in the end-to-end supply chain, while improving EBITDA, releasing cash, and improving competitiveness.

Having worked with over 300 clients, Ottley’s expertise in procurement, logistics, and operations with concentration in the energy and chemicals industry has specifically led to measurable improvements in business processes, more favorable supplier negotiations, and noteworthy increases in productivity and collaboration. With strategies such as supplier optionality and a streamlined pool of suppliers, Ottley and his team can implement improvements in procurement, reduce direct materials costs, and minimize costs for indirect materials and logistics.

Ottley joined SGS Maine Pointe in 2008 as EVP, Analysis and Delivery. He also sits on the consultancy’s Executive Leadership team. His career has spanned nearly all industrial and services segments and has touched the entire plan-make-move-fulfill supply chain.

“I am very pleased to continue my leadership role at SGS Maine Pointe, and to continue delivering measurable value to our clients in the energy and chemicals industries,” said Ottley. “This is a particularly challenging time for energy and chemicals, with possible recessionary softening of demand coming on the heels of continued supply chain disruptions and rising raw materials costs. But even in these challenging times, a renewed look at procurement strategy can improve supply chain cost control, create supplier optionality, and drive positive EBITDA.”

Ottley’s guidance and SGS Maine Pointe’s strategy creates a more unified procurement practice, which ensures that savings gained from a strategic supplier relationship are maintained, and that supplier optionality combines the relative benefits of onshoring, nearshoring and offshoring so as to avoid becoming overly dependent on a single source or geographic region. Transportation too, has taken the spotlight during the pandemic, and with that in mind, SGS Maine Pointe delivers effective, bottom-line strategies that examines network analytics and looks at sourcing in relation to not only cost, but also in relation to minimizing transportation issues.

“Steve has long been a valued SGS Maine Pointe team member,” said Jeff Staub, SGS Maine Pointe’s CEO. “His deep level of expertise, insight, and thought leadership has been essential in building our firm and helping our clients overcome today’s most pressing challenges and to achieve record returns and growth in even the most challenging times. Bringing his attention and focus to this sector will position SGS Maine Pointe for a new chapter of growth and innovation in our client services”

Prior to joining SGS Maine Pointe, in his 30-plus year career Ottley has held several leadership roles in boutique consulting firms, helping them achieve record growth by delivering hundreds of millions of dollars in savings. He earned his HND in Mechanical Engineering and BA in Production Engineering at Oxford.
